Effects of cuniculture commercialization on household poverty status in south western Nigeria

This study evaluated the effect of Cuniculture commercialization on household poverty in Osun State, Nigeria. Descriptive and inferential statistics frequency counts, Foster-Greer-Thorbecke (FGT), Household Commercialization Index (HCI) Tobit Regression was used to analyze data collected from 120 respondents randomly selected register Rabbit Farmers Breeders Association Nigeria (RFABAN) Ife/Ijesha Agricultural development Project (ADP). The results show that is a male dominated enterprise. modal age 18-60 with 87.5% educated. Majority earned between NGN20000 - NGN100000 monthly Cuniculture. found 16% were poor living below line. HCI indicates 54.2% production done mainly for consumption. Access credit unavailability markets major constraints size access influencing recommends more people be encouraged go into serve as additional income household; rabbit farmers become market oriented beyond their present level; they organize themselves cooperative credits creation appropriate solutions sought challenges encountered.
